The 1960s - Fifty years ago, 1968 saw the end of normal steam train operations on British Railways. It was a key stage in the completion of the 1955 Modernisation Plan. By the end of the decade, the modern inter-city image of British Rail was almost complete and steam had gone. This new programme of rare archive films reflects on those final months of steam but also an exciting time of change from the traditional steam worked railway to the virtual completion of the blue and grey corporate image of the 70s.
